BWK - Specialized Martial Arts Instruction for the Disabled/ Physically Challenged
PROGRAM #1
![]() |
This program was developed to introduce physically challenged individuals to the world of martial arts. In this program, they learn the Broken Wing Kenpo system from an instructor who is also physically challenged. (See the "About Us" section for a description of this system). The program fosters respect and self-esteem as well as developing strength, balance, focus, and concentration skills. Through physical training, the student will develop strength and flexibility. They will advance at their own pace, concentrating on their abilities, not their disabilities. Developing the mind, body and spirit will give the student the confidence to explore the world, manage stress, and deal with new situations. Support people are encouraged to participate as well. This program has received national attention being featured in the international publication "Stroke Connection", the magazine of the American Stroke Association. It was also featured on the Fox Sport Network as well as many local newspapers and television stations. |

Martial Arts Seminars
| During martial arts seminars, participants with physical disabilities learn self-discipline and challenge themselves to realize their own abilities and potential. Each student is respected as an individual with his or her own unique and special abilities. Encouragement and positive reinforcement are an important part of the program. We offer these seminars at a variety of facilities including Bayside Neurorehabilitation in Portland and River Ridge in Kennebunk. We developed this program to bring the martial arts to those that cannot take advantage of our regular weekly class. |
Self Defense Seminar
| This is a two session seminar that will get you to start thinking of your safety in everyday life. You will learn strategies to prevent dangerous situations as well as skills and techniques to defend yourself. This concept driven program will help you incorporate these skills in your everyday life. |
